Picking up from the first series, where Detective Sutton solved the real-life murder of Amelie Delagrange in 2004 which lead to finding the same killer of Marsha McDonnell in 2003 and Milly Dowler in 2002, some cast members will be reprising their roles. Known as the Night Stalker throughout the case which was code-named Operation Minstead, Delroy targetted elderly people in southeast London and was not caught until 17 years after his first assault. The series is based on the dairies of the real-life detective Colin Sutton, who helped created the drama, and this series focuses on him cracking the case of the notorious serial rapist and burglar Delroy Grant.
